Are you planning to retire soon? According to a 2015 CareerBuilder report, 54% of workers aged 60 or above stated they planned to continue working after retiring from their current position. This was an increase of 45% from 2014.

In terms of how much these retirees are likely, or planning, to work, CareerBuilder provides the following details:

    Most likely work part-time: 81%
Plan to continue working full-time: 19%

A 2014 Gallup poll showed that almost half of the Baby Boomer generation don’t think they will retire until they’re at least 66. This included one-in-ten Baby Boomers that don’t believe they will ever retire.

The reasons why these individuals will continue working either part or full-time do vary, of course. A 2015 Gallup poll reported on the results of a study conducted with approximately 2,000 United States’ Baby Boomers. It was found that for both entrepreneurs and non-entrepreneurs, 83% launched a venture because they wanted a different lifestyle or wanted to increase their income.

One of the major concerns for partially or fully-retired individuals, is having enough health insurance coverage. This can be an even larger concern for entrepreneurs, as they may not have employer-based healthcare coverage. According to a January 2015 Gallup report, two-out-of-five people in the United States under the age of 65 were covered by their employers.

In 2014, the Centers for Disease Control reported that 35.7 million Americans didn’t have healthcare insurance. As of 2015, however, The Commonwealth Fund reported that there were more adults between the ages of 19-to-64 with coverage. The uninsured rate for these working adults was 13%, which was a decrease from 20% in 2013.

During 2015, approximately 10,000 individuals 65 and older enrolled in Medicare every day, according to The Commonwealth Fund. This was the first time these individuals enrolled in Medicare, and this enrollment trend began in 2010.

Every year, the open-enrollment period for Medicare begins on October 15 and extends through December 7. Coverage, however, won’t begin until January 1 of the next year.

One of the major medical costs that people face is for prescription drugs. In 2015, for example, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services stated that “catastrophic coverage” is available for prescriptions. This type of coverage, however, is usually only available after out-of-pocket expense are paid. For 2015, this amount was $4,700, and for 2016, it was $4,850.

n order to supplement Medicare, many individuals choose to purchase Medigap policies. As of 2015, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services state that these are one-person policies. If both spouses want this type of supplemental coverage, then they need to purchase individual plans.

As of 2015, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services also indicated that there were six Standard Medigap policies available. One of the benefits of these policies is that they also provide emergency healthcare coverage for individuals traveling outside of the United States.

Not everything is covered by these Medigap policies, however. As of 2015, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services reported that the following aren’t usually covered:

    Long-term care
    Vision care
        Dental care
        Hearing aids
        Eyeglasses
        Private-duty nursing

Another important financial step is to purchase life insurance. A recent survey showed that three-in-five adults own some type of life insurance. Furthermore, 34% of the participants stated that they were planning to purchase life insurance within the next year. When questioned about whether or not the average person would need life insurance at some point in the future, 86% of the participants indicated that they would.

In 2015, a survey showed that 55% of people in the United States would recommend life insurance to a friend, colleague, or family member. In 2016, however, there were 66% that stated they would recommend it. A life insurance policy’s benefit increment can range from $10,000 into the millions, so there are a broad range of choices.
